Il successo di Gator

Uno dei fatti in assoluto più strani del monitoraggio dei siti web riguarda Gator. I sito in questione monitorizza i nostri passaggi sulle pagine web e le nostre password. Ma non si conosce l'usco che ne fa dei nostri dati personali e viene catalogato come spyware, ossia programma che ci spia.
Il fatto, però, non è tanto che si tratti di un sito molto diffuso in Italia e di un servizio più o meno utile, ma che è entrato nella classifica dei 20 siti più visitati in italia!
Questo significa che molti utenti si fanno spiare da Gator. Il problema è: quanti di questo utenti sono consci di essere entrati nelle grinfie di Gator e quindi sono utenti dichiarati e quanto sono utenti inconsapevoli?
C'è già un post a riguardo di programmi per eliminare spyware e adware (pubblicità per usare alcuni programmi) e consiglio l'uso di AdAware. Io non sono contro la pubblicità nei programmi (che permette di abbattere i costi di acquisto degli stessi), e nemmeno sull'uso degli spyware (se usiamo Windows Media Player, contenuto in Windows, mandiamo ad un server la lista dei file che ascoltiamo e vediamo).
Sono però contro l'uso di questi strumenti da parte di utenti inconsapevoli.
Questo è quello che Gator.com sa degli utenti (preso dal sito):
